Air Conditioning For Home – How Much Longer Can We Go On?

By: The News Guy
Published: July 30th, 2010

Summer is here and boy it’s hot and will get even hotter yet ! Just think about this before turn up  up the  A/C , here are some  chilling facts about the influence your air conditioning unit has on our environment.

It’s like night follows  day the sun rises and your  A/C is turned  on like clockwork. Summertime arrives, and the air conditioning for home is turned  on in almost all American homes and workplaces. It is time for us to look at making  our own homemade solar panels, to take some of the strain off the grid, before things get from bad to worse

We no longer live with the heat, its now come to the stage where  we have come to be unwilling  to tolerate it. We seem to want it to be cold, how many times do you enter a restaurant, office, store or shopping mall and regardless of the temperature outside you actually  feel cold when you get inside !  Why? Cool is good  but cold is absolutely stupid !

Meanwhile, outside, the planet’s getting hotter. This is something we would rather we were not reminded of, but the planet  is well into a collision course between air conditioning and the environment.  We now spend far  more energy on cooling and heating than the rest of the world put together but events  are starting  get even worse as other regions  particularly  – India, China – where they have just  started  to crank up their  A/C. A lot of home owners  in  emerging  countries have their own renewable energy systems attached to their homes .

Currently in Nort America we consume, and therefore  have  to generate more electricity  just for cooling and heating the environment  we live and work in, than the African sub-continent consumes  for all its entire needs  annually.

Well then you say, make the air conditioning for homes more efficient! The chilling fact is that in the last two decades A/C units  have increased their efficiency by approx.  twenty five percent , well there you are then, you reply. BUT  the other side of the coin is that we currently use 36%  more energy  for air conditioning than we did 2  decades ago. WHAT? As A/C  systems got to be  of greater efficiency and so  cheaper to operate, what did we do we turned down the thermostat a couple of degrees, this combined with the fact that a much higher proportion homes  have Air Conditioning  systems, adds up to the 36%  increase  in the consumption  of electricity  just for cooling!

So to put all the facts together, we now have an increase number homes with more  Air Conditioning systems. In the last twenty  years we have had the hottest seven  years ever recorded, with another set of high temperatures predicted for this year, so we are going to need record quantities  of electrical power  to keep us cool. Increased  electricity used = more electricity generated, using carbon based fuels = more pollution from the CO2 emitted = more Global warming = more heat = more A/C = etc. etc. I’m sure you see where this is heading!

It is not all entirely our fault the modern houses  we buy are not constructed  to reflect  the regional variations,  the same style  of home  is being constructed in New England as is Arizona, with 2 entirely  divergent  yearly weather patterns. This has been made doable by the use of Air Conditioning to the elimination of all architectural plans  that could have helped  to keep our houses  a cooler and/or warmer using natural design tecniques.

It could  shortly  come to the point,in the not to distant future, where  we will end up having power shortages  if we continue to build  air conditioning for homes rather design homes  that are designed use less AC .

Firstly Look up my articles on more efficient use of electricity, which will help to make your house more energy and heat efficient.

Secondly make use of natures own cooling agents – plants and trees, trees round you house to give some shade, plants than cover walls to absorb some of the suns direct heat, plants on window sills will help absorb some of the heat entering though windows.

Thirdly get some air flow through the house shade you windows then open them, use ceiling fans they are very cheap to run and will lower the heat by around 4 degrees.

Now is a great  time to consider  putting in  your own DIY residential photovoltaic solar panels, not only to combat  the possible power shortages, but also to allow you some relief from the rising  cost of commercial electricity. There are some very good online guides that show you in step by step stages how to do it all.

Prepare for the future before air conditioning for homes comes to rule our daily life. Make your home more energy/heat efficient and give serious consideration to building you own DIY solar system.

Medieval Sword Fighting Tactics

By: The News Guy
Published: July 24th, 2010

The medieval swords used in battle could be quite large and cumbersome.   Soldiers during the middle ages had to deal with both the weight of the large weapons and the weight of there shields and great suits of armor.   These soldiers may have been very strong, but they still had to fight differently than a soldier wearing zero armor and fighting with smaller and lighter weapons of choice.  I wrote this article to go over the basic strategies medieval fighters used to fight and slay their enemies.

The horse riding medieval fighter was not troubled by the great weight of his gear like his foot bound comrade.   The wonderfully built horses of these days allowed mounted soldiers to spend more of their energies on broad slashing movements with their medieval fighting sword and less on walking around.   However, mounted soldiers were rare compared to foot soldiers and that means most people did not have the luxury of using big slashing combat movements.

Soldiers without horses needed to conserve energy.  It burns a lot of calories and quickly saps energy away from the soldier when he slashes with a heavily armored arm and a large sword.  Why would  a soldier use all of his energy to slash his opponent down knowing that he wouldn’t have any left to fight his next opponent with?

Soldiers of this time period created fighting styles that used less energy so they could still be victorious in battle and protected by their great armor as well.   These soldiers did not use their swords for blocking and would completely rely on their armor and shields.   Attacking movements consisted mostly of short jabs used to impale the enemy.  Aggressive fighters would make their stabbing movements at the start of battle in the hopes of a quick victory while more defensive fighters would wait until they saw a good opening before striking.

Soldiers encased in heavy army had the luxury of being able to wrestle with their opponents without fear of getting cut along the way.   Using the weight of their armor, they would knock their enemy off of their feet and onto the ground.   Following this they would bash their enemies with their shields or stab them with their swords.  Soldiers in heavy armor were very intimidating to lesser armored soldiers for their sheer appearance of invulnerability.

The major draw back to the heavy medieval sword, shield, and set of armor was its weight.  Even with improved fighting techniques, it was possible for more mobile soldiers to perform guerrilla warfare to eventually tire the medieval fighter down.  Having said this, I think that were I to go back to the middle ages I’d rather be the guy in the heavy armor than the more mobile soldier.

Past And Present Military Gear

By: The News Guy

Military gear over the years has changed dramatically, but many things still stay the same.  I think this can be said for many things that people are doing these days.  For example you may use a plain instead of a horse now, but in the end you are still traveling.   This article will go over the various types of gear that current and past soldiers wear to battle.

There are a multitude of traits that never change when it comes to soldier gear.   For instance, warriors will still use killing weapons and will cover themselves in gear to protect themselves from harm.   Soldiers will still participate in a hard training program and are still viewed favorably by those that they protect.

You’ll see the big variances in the way the new gear and training has developed over the years.   Warriors now have access to weapons that can crush thousands of enemies in one blow.   This has called for an advancement of training in some areas and less training in others.  It is much easier to learn how to point and shoot an assault weapon when you compare it to the skill that was needed for a successful sword battle.  Currently, basic training only makes warriors learn to shoot with their rifles for one to two weeks which compared to ancient soldiers weapon training is not very long.   In addition to this modern soldiers do not need the strength and endurance of ancient soldiers who were constantly using their muscles.

Current protective gear like that of old, will protect a soldier head and torso, but differs tremendously in its protective power.   For example if a modern day soldier were to use a piece of roman armor to deflect a bullet, he would never live to see another day.   The ancient armors are best reserved for display purposes rather than combat.  The newer gear is not invulnerable, but it is much more sturdy than the armors and helmets of the middle ages.

Although gear has come a long way, it will never fully reach a plateau.  As long as there are armies willing to engage each other in battle, there will be somebody out there trying to improve their soldiers gear.

I hope you enjoyed reading this page on old and new soldier gear.   Please add a link to this page in your facebook account so that all your friends may look at it.

The president of the Republic of Aoteraroa has spoken out about the events in Papeete.

“It is of grave concern that certain sectors within Aoteraroa wish to instill terror against our neighbours.

Although it is acknowledged we have a god given right to the pacific, and that it was stolen from us by the French, English and Dutch, violence is not the answer.

The Replublic of Aoteraroa denies any involvement in this obscene terrorist act.”

A representative of President Iti promptly stepped forward upon the completion of the speech, requesting all media leave the room with no further questions.

The representative indicated a formal statement of position by International Affairs spokesman Michael Laws would be forthcoming.

Former Iran Seeks Compensation

Nearly three years after a nuclear bombardment that wiped out close to 90% of it’s population, Iran’s interim government has approached the UN supreme council to petition compensation.

After the failure of the Bush administration in USA to prove Iran was actually a threat, there are legal grounds under international law to seek compensation.

Unfortunately for Iran, the former United States of American is no longer culpable for previous war crimes. The Federated States of North America, which exclude New York, and most of the wasteland of the former Midwest, do not accept or acknowledge any claims on former USA policy decisions.

The reality is the only compensation of war crimes Iranian people could seek would need to be applied to the individual decision makers.

As the majority of them were killed in the 2007 coup, it is unlikely they will be able to find justice.

Backgounder: “down below” – the city forgotton.

September 11, 2001. A devastating event in America’s history.

Several thousand died. And many tens of thousands were affected.

Then came Marcus Edorian. The charismatic leader of “New York”. A self proclaimed leader of the people, for the people. The first Black American since Martin Luther King to get people to sit up and take notice.

The collapse of local government, and introduction of martial law in New York resulted in many feeling less than “American”. People were hurting. They were hungry. Cold. Power was off, water was intermittent, and food was limited. New York was closed off.

The Bush government had isolated all of New York while a formal enquiry was undertaken. Until complete, New York was essentially a prison.

People from New York don’t generally appreciate being controlled. People stirred from their complacency and eventually tried to be heard. By this time the war on the “Axis of Evil”, Bush’s bizarre justification for aggression had begun.

The powers in control reacted to these voices with bloody precision. Peaceful riots were countered with violence not seen since Tianoman Square.

People from New York don’t generally appreciate being controlled.

The protests escalated to an all out war. Many thousands died, and eventually a peace accord was reached. By that time most of New York was in flames. As in times pasts, a new city was built over the old. But the old was still there. “down below”.

A place few sensible visited, and only those with no where else, lived. A place of harsh social justice, a sub culture where outsiders are shunned.
